Windsor, 22 miles (35Km) to the West of central London, is in the English county of Berkshire. Not only does it have the world famous castle - there is lots more to see in the town and surrounding area. For instance Windsor is on the opposite bank of the river Thames to Eton, famous for it's centuries old school and antique shops.
Home to Britain's monarchs for centuries, Windsor Castle has grown from William the Conqueror's original motte & bailey wooden fortification into the magnificent building we see today.
Windsor and Eton can both can be easily reached by car from Junction 6 of the M4 motorway, Junction 2 of the M40 or by train from London's Waterloo and Paddington Stations. Heathrow Airport is only a few miles away, as is the M25 London orbital motorway.
In addition to the castle, Windsor has numerous other attractions. Perhaps you'd enjoy a walk by the side of the Thames, taking a riverboat trip to Bray and back. If designer shopping is your thing then the stylish new development at Royal Windsor Station is for you. Located opposite the Castle the shops include Liberty, DAKS, Jaeger, French Connection and Goldsmiths.
Shopping opportunities abound in Windsor. There are two department stores, branches of most of the UK's famous High St stores and many speciality shops catering for the visitor.
There is a vast range of eateries within walking distance of the centre of Windsor. They range from fast-food outlets, for the visitor in a rush, to high quality restaurants with fine food and prices to match!
