A few facts about Britain:

Mains electricity 240 volts. British mains plugs are unique and have three rectangular pins. Adaptors are available in many stores and at most airports.

We drive on the left side of the road. This seems odd to many foreign visitors. All I can say is that we have some of the lowest accident statistics in the world so we must be doing something right! If you hire a car consider one with an automatic gearbox even if you are used to a manual gearbox. You'll be relieved to know that the foot pedals are the same way round as everywhere else in the world.

Shop hours are usually 9-5:30 Monday to Saturday. Many stores also open on Sunday. Large stores can only open for 6 hours, usually around 10:30-4:30. Smaller stores set their own hours.
